We Got Bling!

We picked up our wedding bands today! Mine is a simple band of diamonds that are similar to the side stones in my engagement ring. I've always loved the traditional wedding set. I keep trying it on and extending my arm or moving my hand around. I just HAVE to know what it will look like!

Alec's ring is a tungsten carboide band that's brushed (ie matte) in the center then kinda shiny and carved on each side. It's a darker metal than my rings but it looks really good. It's a classic design but has a modern edge with the color.

Alec was very impressive at the jewelry store...especially with my ring. He kept asking to see different designs and really had an idea of what I was looking for but didn't quite know how to relay. I was much more reserve and probably would've liked whatever someone just threw my way!

Alec says "now it's official!"

Our flowers

The idea is to keep the wedding super simple relying mostly on the beauty of Nantucket. I'll carry a simple arrangement of perwinkle and lime hydrangeas and hopefully a few lily of the valley. We'll use these flowers at our reception too.

We chose hydrangeas because they are a popular flower in the area and because...well...they're just so pretty! Nantucket even has a few large hyndrangea farms. The hydrangea stands for friendship, devotion and understanding.

Lily of the valley was chosen because it's our wedding month flower. My great grandma - who I absolutely adored - grew these in her amazing flower beds. Lily of the valley means sweetness, humility and return of happiness.

I think both are quite fitting...don't you?

Dress Shopping...EEK!

So I was planning on beginning the "Great Search for THE Perfect Dress" in maybe 2 or 3 weeks. But...there was a sale!! I'm a penny pincher at heart so I set my sights on David's Bridal today! Alec stayed put at home tending the nice patches of weeds our yard has so graciously blessed us with and finishing up power blasting everything attached to our lovely home (anyone wanna buy a house?!?!).

I was NERVOUS and a bit excited but once I got started...the nerves quickly went away. My bridal consultant, Jamie, was amazing! I was a little hesitant when she first crammed me into the proper undergarments - there may have even been a little bit of hatred. But after the blood ciculation returned to my extremities and I figured out how to breath without moving my lungs, I was very thankful for her assistance.

I went in with 1 dress in mind. After 20 or so dresses (some which I tried on several times), I've narrowed my selections down to 4! Anyone who's been shopping with me knows how horribly indecisive I am. This is the one thing that gave me great comfort in not dragging my friends and family all over Green Country!

So now I have to decide between the 4. I'm going to sleep on it and hopefully I'll know 100% without a doubt tomorrow.

Now...if only we can figure out the other 100 million things we need to decide on before the BIG DAY!

Goin’ to Nantucket and we’re gonna get ma-a-a-rried!

Yes - the big day is May 20 on the beautiful isle of Nantucket!

We wanted to go away...just us...no one else. We both already gave our friends and family the big wedding so now it's just us and a beach and perhaps a lighthouse.

Neither of us have been to Nantucket so we're not sure exactly what the 'Tuck has in store for us. We're staying at a cozy bed and breakfast or perhaps a quaint little inn. Getting there seems to be the biggest challenge at this point - this will include a plane...a car...and a boat - ahh the joys of living smack dab in the middle of the freakin' country!

We'll wed on May 20...just 1 day after my grandparent's 65th anniversary. Their life long companionship is what I've always strived to achieve. In my eyes, they still act like newlyweds - so absolutely in love with each other and in love with their life together. They still kid with each other and Grandma speaks of Grandpa with such pride! My grandpa became very ill last year and my sister and I were sure that if he left us, grandma would surely die of a broken heart.

Anywho...the 'Tuck it is! We didn't want to do the cliche' Bahamas or Jamaica or really any other place that boasts a huge Sandals resort. The 'Tuck is different. People ask "why Nantucket?" and we ask "why not?". Give me a place with cobblestone streets, hydrangeas, scrumptious seafood, long beaches with tall beach grass, and my love and I'm set!

Folks also seem surprised by the quickness - May 20th...this year?!?! Hey - this ol' gal isn't getting any younger (believe me - my metabolism lets me know this with each pound I pack on!). We're ready to start our life together. It's just that simple.

And we're both putting way less into "I do take 2" and way more into a life long companionship!
