We Have Energy!

We walked around all day yesterday at Oktoberfest in Ponca City then went to the TU game last night. I was so exhuasted by the time my head hit my pillow! I was sure I'd be on the couch all day today. I'm not sure if it was Alec's big Sunday breakfast or being in the 2nd trimester, but I started out with a ton of energy! I cleaned both downstairs bathrooms, dusted, vacuumed and swept. I managed to go to a couple of stores then it hit me. I was so tired and drained! I had to mosey on home, have a cheese and veggie sandwich and sit for a minute.

Alec was super energized too! He moved a shelf downstairs, moved my old toy chest to a closet, moved our little TV upstairs and the big TV downstairs and moved the treadmill out the garage. He also ran a new cable line down another wall in our bedroom. This required the weekly trip to Lowes and many trips up to the attic.




Alec redirected the cable in the game room to our bedroom. Then he had to run a new cable for the game room. There were lots of other steps involved, but since I wasn't allowed in the attic, I'm not quite sure what they were nor did I get any pictures. I got to help by pulling cables from the attic down the wall then out the new hole in the bedroom. Now we are able to move the TV in our bedroom to the opposite wall! This opens up the space in front of our bedroom windows for the bassinet and glider.

The nursery will be upstairs. We almost have it all cleared out!

We plan on using the game room as a play room! We've already gotten a ton of stuff from family, friends, garage sales and consignment sales. We love going to garage sales on Saturday mornings and mostly pick up books, games and toys. We bought Dr. Seuss's Oh the Places You'll Go! at a garage same for 50 cents. We then saw it at Barnes and Noble for $18 brand new! That's crazy!!!


I like classic toys and books like See and Say and Little Golden Books. I'm not a big fan of Disney though. For some reason, Disney got me all riled up a few years ago and I haven't like them ever since. I can't remember the reason, but I'm pretty sure I don't like them! We like Sesame Street (though Elmo is a little annoying) and we've bought a few games like Hungry Hungry Hippo, Operation and Hi Ho Cherry-O (very boring game!). Again,these games go for around $15 or $20 brand new and we got them at garage sales for $1-$3 each!

The nursery won't really have a theme - I'm not about themes. But we did find a fabric that we love. It's a toile and the design is nursery rhymes. I like it because it's neutral and classic and different. Alec's mom has offered to make a bumper and blanket for us - one side toile and the other chenille (really it's called Minky dot, but it's chenille-ish).

Time for dinner before I crash! I LOVE having all this energy! Finally!

Oh - weird pregnancy cravings? I'm kinda on a bratwurst and kraut kick right now. Yum!

1st Trimester Belly Shots

Baby Update!

We had our 2nd appointment today and everything is good. The doctor couldn't pick up the baby's heart beat on the little sound thing so they squeezed us in for an ultrasound.

The baby is absolutely perfect! We could see its ear and nose and arms and legs. It was laying on its back with one leg kicked up and 1 arm up by its face. I think it was mimicking how I sleep! I feel bad for sleeping on my stomach now. I hope I'm not crushing the baby! Ugh...guess I need to learn to sleep on my back!

It's amazing how it went from a little blob to a baby in only 4 weeks! The baby's heart beat was beating at 162 beats per minute.

Our next appointment is Oct 21. Our next ultrasound is in 2 months (at 20 weeks) and that should be when we find out if it's a boy or a girl.

It still hasn't sunk in that we're expecting! I had about a 1/2 second moment of clarity last night and realized I'm pregnant. Then the moment passed and I was back to "the lazy girl on the couch".

Our New Door!

We took some of the $$ we made from our big ol' garage sale last weekend and bought a new storm door for the front of our house!

Our house looked kinda sad and uninviting before:


Handyman Alec did an excellent job installing just before Hurricane Ike made his way to town!


Now our house looks more welcoming!


Alec also updated our doorbell to match our new storm door.

Introducing Grape Davis!

Our baby is the size of a grape today. I'm not sure what kind of grape - just a grape that's almost an inch long! And to think - just last week it was a bean!

When we had our ultrasound last week, we saw the baby's heart beating and it was beating so fast - 155 beats per minute! It's like the baby was super excited to finally see us!

I've been indulging in hot fudge sundaes and naps that last between 2 and 5 hours. I always wondered what it would be like to be lazy. Now I know!

Alec is tolerating my random acts of raging hormones. After I bite his head off, I promptly give it back. We have an understanding.

Next week our little grape will turn into a kumquat. They grow up so fast...

Two Pink Lines!

On Wednesday, August 6, our lives changed forever. We thought I may be pregnant so we bought a pregnancy test on Tuesday. I wanted to take the test right away because the anticipation was killing me! But Alec wanted to wait till the next morning because apparently morning is the best time to take a test. I barely slept at all that night.

When we woke up the next morning, Alec took the furkids outside while I took the test. The 2nd pink line showed up so fast and so clear. I just stood there staring at the test. When I heard Alec come in, I hollered at him to come here! I showed him the test and he just started laughing then I started laughing then we both cried and laughed at the same time. All I could say was "How did this happen?" I'm not sure what I meant by that. I mean...I know how it happened, but I was just in shock that it FINALLY happened!

We got ready for work and could barely contain ourselves all day. We finally broke down and told my friend and our boss, Dana. We were hoping to not tell anyone till after our first appointment or after the first trimester, but we're just too excited!

I took another test when we got home just to make sure (and we bought a 2-pack so no sense in wasting!). It was positive too!

So now our days are filled with deciding baby names, rearranging our furniture to make room for baby and trying to figure out how this whole parenting thing works! We are determined to make our furkids into perfect angels before the baby comes, but we'll see what happens!

I haven't been sick - just a little nauseous now and then. I've been tired and get worn out easily. I haven't had any weird cravings either. So far not a lot has changed except now I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night which is super frustrating.

Alec has been very supportive and makes me feel as comfortable as possible. He's been sympathy eating - indulging in a nightly hot fudge sundae with me. We find ourselves tearing up every time we see a baby on TV or hear a song about babies.

Other than being totally consumed with babies, we haven't been up to much of anything else. Alec has decided he wants to start catfishing at the dam each weekend. He even helped my grandpa clean fish a couple of weeks ago! As long as he cleans them before he brings them home, then I'm perfectly fine with the idea!

My mom's garden is out of control so she gave us a ton of tomatoes, some canning jars and her salsa recipe.

We also had some okra from my Grandma and decided to pickle it!


So if I get any cravings for catfish, pickles, salsa or pickled okra, I'm set!

No News is Good News!

We haven't been up to much lately. In fact, this past weekend was our laziest yet! Alec did fix his bicycle tire so we cruised around the neighborhood and park last night. But I think that was really the only thing we accomplished all weekend! Weekends like that are nice, but they can make you feel a bit worthless!

Maybe we're just recovering from all the stuff we did a few Saturdays ago...

We took the kids to The Dog Days of Summer on Main Street in Broken Arrow. The merchants on Main Street were out with treats for the furkids and giveaways for the humans. It was sooo hot, but I think everyone had a good time!



Alec hung up a clothes line so we can do a little something something for the environment and our electric bill. I'm amazed how fast the clothes dry outside!

I bought Alec a Garage Butler for his birthday. We (ok - really just Alec) are notorious for not remembering whether or not we closed the garage door when we leave for work in the morning. In fact, this just happened a week before Alec's b-day. We were 1/2 way to work when Alec asks "Did I close the garage door?" I couldn't remember so we had to turn around and go home. Lo and behold, the door was open! On our 2nd attempt at our commute I thought to myself - there HAS to be something that helps close your garage door when accidently left open. Thus...The Garage Butler! This gadget can be set anywhere from 3 minutes to 1 hour so if your garage door is open for the specified time, it automatically closes! We think we've put it to use a few times since Alec installed it, but we're not sure.

And lastly, Alec put together the shelving unit his parents got him for his birthday. Yea! Our garage is starting to look like a garage and not just random piles of stuff!


Hopefully next weekend will be a bit more productive!
